On Environment Day, CNI discusses water security and the ESG agenda in the industry

Seminars to be held on June 7 and 8 will discuss the impacts of climate change on water resources and the industry’s contributions to the Sustainable Development Goals

The importance of water security for the industry and the incorporation by companies of ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) criteria will be discussed on June 7 and 8 in two seminars organized by the National Confederation of Industry (CNI). These seminars will celebrate World Environment Day – which is held every year on June 5 to raise awareness and promote environmental action around the world –, with the attendance of experts, scholars, authorities, and representatives of the industrial sector.

The seminars will be broadcast on the CNI YouTube channel. To watch, simply register for free (click here to register).

On Tuesday (7), the seminar will address strategic issues on topics involving the industrial agenda and water security, such as water related critical events, financing of actions for adaptation to climate change and the National Water Agenda. On this day, the CNI will launch the Study on the Payment for the Right to Use Water Resources, a document that points out ways to improve this instrument, which is part of the National Water Resources Policy.

Water security is a matter of great importance for the industrial sector, especially in a scenario of increased demand and climate change associated reduced supply, which increases the risks related to shortages and floods in urban areas, among other critical events.

Interacting with the environment with responsibility and transparency

On Wednesday (8), the seminar will discuss the Industry’s ESG agenda. Experts will discuss how organizations can contribute to the achievement of the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the role of the financial market in promoting business through the incorporation of ESG criteria, and the performance of small and medium-sized companies in building businesses connected to the sustainable agenda.

Challenges related to sustainability have demanded more responsibility and transparency in the way companies interact with the environment, relate to their audiences, and carry out the management strategies they have adopted. This has directly impacted risk assessments and investment decisions in the financial market, demanding business leaders to reposition their strategies.

During the event, the results of the ESG Consultation in the Brazilian Industry, produced by CNI, will be presented.
